European Whirlwind

By Bill Wheeler

Gondolas in Venice, ItalyOur European vacation in 2014 was one of, if not the, most memorable trips we have ever taken. Cecilia and I, along with our son Jefferson, our daughter Brittany and her new husband Joey went on a tour of Italy and London. Venice was certainly memorable and was far more than expected. The Fenici Theater (The Phoenix Theater) is an absolute must-see, along with St. Marks Square with the Doges Palace (where every column is carved differently) and the ever popular gondola tour. You can get around on foot if you are up to walking, or water taxis are pretty reliable for transportation. The gelato is to die for and there are plenty of opportunities to try some.

One of the highlights for us was staying at the Hotel Principe (just a few minutes walk to the train station), which was fabulous and arranged a private tour for our family at the famous Murano Glass factory (one of many family glass makers that have been in existence for literally centuries). Of course I had to have something made to be shipped back (dare I break something on the way back!) and they were exceptional at every detail.

If you go to Italy, especially for the first time, Venice absolutely has to be included on your itinerary. Venice has a long history of being a movie backdrop, so why just watch a movie when you can experience it first hand? Having had some experience there, let us know how we can integrate this into your trip of a lifetime, like it was for us. You won't be disappointed.
