Music at the Pier
It's the oasis in the middle of your week!
Looking for a break in the week to get you to the weekend? We could recommend Music by the Sea, a free Wednesday night concert that happens at the St. Augustine Pier park. This is located on AIA beachside across from Salt Life and the music starts at 7:00 p.m. featuring a different band and local restaurant serving up affordable dinners (dinners typically start at 6:00 p.m.). Jasper's Snack Shack also serves up great desserts and soft-serve ice cream and more. Coolers are perfectly acceptable and Cecilia and I are a regular feature with our "island" consisting of beach blankets, our elaborate picnic basket, dinner, champagne and even our own palm tree and tiki umbrella! I even had one of the regulars suggest that I might be Mr. Howell from Gilligan's Island in disguise! Bill Jones, a long-time president of the St. Augustine Beach Civic Association goes to great lengths to audition bands so the best area talent can be seen and enjoyed.
Parking is a premium, so if you want to park by the action, you will need to come early and be patient, otherwise there is the orange bus run by Sax Taxi that shuttles between St. Augustine Beach city hall and the pier for a nominal fee (if you join the St. Augustine Beach Association, it is a free ride). The concerts end promptly at 9:00 p.m. and the series now runs all summer, starting before Memorial Day and into the fall. It is a great time and when you come, be sure to stop by the island to say "Hi!"
More information and complete band and restaurant schedules can be found at the St. Augustine Beach Civic Association website.
